South Korea hosted the 33rd ICA Congress


ICA (International Cooperative Alliance)’s 33rd World Cooperative Congress took place in Seoul (1~3 Dec) under the theme ‘Deepening our cooperative identity. More than 1,200 people gathered together at the 2021 Congress to celebrate the 125th anniversary of ICA which has 318 member cooperatives from 112 countries worldwide. The Congress hosted a wide range of sessions and workshops under the 4 major thematic areas (Examining / Strengthening / Committing to / and Living our cooperative identity).

South Korea president Moon through his congratulatory speech, highlighted the potential of cooperative which creates more than 280 million jobs worldwide. President Moon also shared the efforts of Korea in promoting the social economy which the sector now hires more than 310,000 employees. He stressed that the government will put its efforts into legislating three core laws related to the social economy soonest (basic framework on the social economy, social value and social economy market support).
